You’ve probably seen hundreds of 3rd generation Integra’s running around with JDM bits and pieces to emulate the legendary “Type R” Integra. Well this is the real deal. The US Type R came in very limited quantities and only in three distinct colors not available on lesser Integras. These were Championship White, Phoenix Yellow and Black Pearl. This Championship White 1998 Integra Type R goes one step further with the addition of a real factory JDM front end.
The owner brought this genuine Type R Integra to Curry’s for a full transformation into a fully fledged track/race car. Prior to coming to our shop this Type R had a fully welded competition roll cage installed along with a pair of Sparco race seats with five point harnesses at Piper Motorsports (www.pipermotorsport.com).
Curry’s with the help of lead technician Dan Howell then went about upgrading every aspect of the cars performance potential. First off, the suspension was upgraded with a full PIC coil over suspension along with an A Spec front sway bar and Mugen rear sway bar. In addition we upgraded all the bushings in the suspension with Mugen replacement bushings. The car was then perfectly corner balanced and aligned for optimal handling and balance at the track.
The stock brakes were upgraded with Spoon Sport front brake calipers using Cobalt race pads and stainless steel brake lines with Motul 600 high performance brake fluid. This brake hardware sits under 16 inch Volk TE37 race wheels with Yokohama Advan race rubber.
In the engine bay, Curry’s changed every part including the timing belt (Toda), installed Skunk2 performance cams with updated retainers and keepers, tune up (cap, plugs, wires, and rotor). A Mugen intake system adds additional horsepower to an already powerful engine. We added some Samco hoses, a new Koyo radiator for additional cooling, a new oil catch can, new thermostat, and a Mugen temp switch. In addition upgraded motor mounts were installed for the added abuse of track duty.
The interior received a new Momo competition steering wheel and a set of AEM gauges located in a perfectly placed gauge pod set in the instrument cluster.
The last addition was a genuine Mugen 1st generation rear wing to complement the rest of the car.
In its stock form the 3rd generation Type R was always intended as a track ready street car. Larger brakes, tighter suspension, a stiffer chassis, and a finely tuned race motor with higher compression, low friction pistons, high performance cam shafts, and custom throttle body and intake manifold made the original Type R a legend in Japan and the rest of the world. It was known as the non-waterered down version.
Curry’s took it one step further and with help of Spoon Sport, Mugen, AEM, Sparco, A Spec, Toda and other well noted parts suppliers raising the performance bar even higher.
