This understated 2001 Audi S4 Avant started life as an unassuming but quick station wagon. The owner had visions of building the European Audi RS4 (not sold in the US) and tracking the car while hanging with Porsches and Ferraris.
Curry’s completed a total remake of the car into a pavement pounding 400 hp track wagon that can now hang with a Porsche 996 Turbo. Included in the upgrades was an RSKO4 twin turbo upgrade from AWE Tuning. Additional engine modifications included special GIAC software upgrades, larger injectors, upgraded mass air flow system, AWE down pipes, EVO MS intake system and a Milltek performance exhaust.
While in the engine compartment, we upgraded the hoses with a Samco hose set, installed an APR Bi-Pipe, carbon fiber RS4 engine covers from Europe, and RS4 engine mounts. To cope with nearly 200 additional horsepower, we upgraded the driveline with a stage 3 Clutchmasters performance clutch and lightweight flywheel. To keep the car running cool, we added AWE’s larger intercoolers and a European spec RS4 oil cooler system.
We also installed a full H&R coil over track suspension which can be adjusted for both street and track settings.
Naturally, we had to ensure that the car could stop from incredible speeds, so we installed a 14 inch four piston Stoptech big brake kit in the front and a 13-inch Stoptech big brake kit in the rear. To show off the brakes, we installed 18-inch BBS CH wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport performance tires.
Lastly, we imported the European OEM Audi RS4 carbon fiber interior and RS4 shift knob along with a brand new Eclipse stereo navigation system.
The finished product makes over 400 crank horsepower and with its all wheel drive system this Avant can rip through 60 miles per hour in 4 seconds flat with a quarter mile under 13 seconds. However, it’s still civilized and reliable enough for everyday use, whether it be a quick trip to drop the kids at school, or an adventurous jaunt on your favorite country road, to the ultimate track day weapon.
